Week 15
Hi, this is Luna, Neil, and Finnán, here to give our final devlog on this project now that the game is complete. Overall, we learned a lot about what is involved in the development of this genre of game, such as programming accurate controls and movement for the vehicles, creating functioning UI elements, and making effective use of assets to enhance the visual quality of a game past the initial design. We also learned new aspects of programming that we hadn't had experience using before, so this project was all around beneficial.
The visual side of the game turned out well; the aesthetic design of the game ended up being pleasing to the eye, and we were quite satisfied with how it looked in the end. Asides from this, we were also happy with the audio design of the game - it added a lot to the overall gameplay experience, and really made it feel like a proper racing game. The controls of the car also helped with this, and we believe all this resulted in the game being quite enjoyable to play.
In the future, we will dedicate more time to different parts of a project in order to implement everything we wish to; due to time constraints, there were certain aspects we had to leave out of this one. As well as this, we would likely attempt to proceed in a more original direction in terms of the format of the game, given this one is currently quite similar to other racing games one can find online. It would be both beneficial to differentiate the game from the crowd with a larger amount of unique aspects, and we believe this would likely turn out to be more enjoyable in the long run as well.
